Castlesampson N.S. is a Catholic, co-educational school, centrally located in the South Roscommon: 10 minutes from Monksland & 4 minutes drive from St Ronan’s Church in Taughmaconnell. We have two mainstream classrooms and currently have 46 pupils on roll.
We cover all areas of the primary curriculum whilst also being dedicated to the physical, emotional, cultural and moral development in all students.
We enjoy the luxury of an expansive play area, football pitch and astroturf where pupils hone their sporting skills and commune with nature through the changing seasons. We engage in a variety of initiatives including the Active and Green School flags.
We are a GAA 5 star school and children have taken part in Engineering in the Box, Discovery Primary Science and Maths and the Junior Entrepreneur Project.
We are an Active School having achieved our second Active flag in 2017. Children enjoy a broad range of activities. We attend annual swimming lessons each year and avail of the coaching skills provided by the G.A.A. in Gaelic football and hurling and the F.A.I. in soccer. We participate in Cumann na mBunscoil, cross country and soccer competitions each year. All pupils get to wear the school jersey and love to represent their school.
The school was built in 1965 and celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2015. It was refurbished in 2002/2003 and was extended to provide modern facilities for support teachers, our school secretary and especially for our pupils. The school was further enhanced with new windows and doors in 2022.
There is a high level of co-operation between staff, pupils, parents and our Board of Management.
