Senior School TourWhat a great day we had on the senior school tour!
On a dry, warm day first class to sixth class headed off to Lough Key Forest Park for our school tour! Our first activity were the adventure rooms. These rooms contain quests which each child must solve to earn a stamp. We had so much fun trying to solve the puzzles and win the challenges! After some lunch we hit the Adventure playground where we climbed, swung, slid, chased and had so much fun on all the equipment! Following this we were brought on a guided tour around the grounds. We travelled in the underground tunnels that were once used by the servants, we climbed to the top of a 12 story tower, we travelled along the canopy walk and learned a lot about the history of the area. It was a great day and we had so much fun, there was even time for some nail painting on the bus! |
|
Active WeekActive week was a resounding success! After hard work and planning from the Active Committee the big week finally arrived! We were so lucky with the weather, the sun shone for the week!

All of this will go towards our quest to renew our Active Flag! Check out our 'Active School' tab to read all about our journey! |

Guinea Pig Fun!Following the success of our Junior Entrepreneur Programme the children decided to spend their hard earned profits on a classroom pet!
After extensive research we settled on guinea pigs! We sourced the hutch, outside pen, carry case, cage, feeding bottles, feeding bowls, hay and sawdust second hand and bargained it down to a great price! Following this we collected our two little guinea pigs from Petworld! We have a lot of learning ahead of us and have already learned so much! The children really appreciate the value of these little piggies as they spent their own money to purchase them! |
|
Junior Entrepreneur SaleAfter months of hard work including sourcing materials, creating the product, marketing, finance, packaging and other preparations, the day of our big sale finally arrived!
The children's ad (which can be viewed on our Facebook page), posters and flyers really worked as there was a big crowd waiting to be let in! Photo frames, wellie customisation bags, phone customisation bags and sticker stalls were set up and ready for custom. Before the sale, some students completed a presentation explaining the process of the programme to the crowd. All that was left was to man their stations and sell! The children and adults all seemed very impressed with our products and the phone customisation stall was sold out within minutes! All the children dealt with the customers confidently, politely and efficiently. The customers were so generous and we were completely sold out by the end of the day! It was an exhausted but proud group of children that totted up their earnings. Following that we factored in paying back our debts. When all was said and done the children had earned almost €250!! We are so proud of all the hard work the children put into this project. We are so thankful to everyone who helped along the way, with a special thank you going to Fr Neylon. We also want to thank all the parents and family members who came to our big sale. The Junior Entrepreneur Programme was a great success and we have no doubt that there are some future entrepreneurs in our midst! |

On Show and Tell day 2nd to 6th class showed the junior classes 5 different experiments. The children were divided up into stations. Station one involved building the tallest tower possible out of marshmallows and pasta. The tower then needed to be able to withstand the jelly earthquake!! Station two consisted of creating the strongest bridge to hold the most blocks possible. Station three utilised the reaction between an acid and base to blow up a balloon! Station four used balloons, cds and bottle caps to create a hover craft!! And the final station explored mixing liquids of different densities to create lava lamps! The children enjoyed the week and loved learning all about engineering! We think there are definitely some future engineers in Castlesampson N.S.! |

Dragon's DenThe senior room are taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. At this stage of the programme children had to come up with a business idea and pitch it to a panel of judges, similar to Dragon's Den.
The children spent weeks coming up with business ideas, preparing their products, creating posters, writing their speeches and practising their pitches. When the day finally arrived the children were both nervous and excited. Our panel was made up of Ms Donnellon, Fr Neylon and local businessman Donie Hamrock. To start off with, Mr Hamrock spoke to the children about his businesses and answered their questions. Afterwards the children came in one by one to pitch their business ideas to the dragons. All ideas were excellent and the judges found it very difficult to pick just one. However, in the end, the judges chose Eloise Clark's idea which was very well thought out and presented excellently. This is only the start of the Junior Entrepreneur project, with all children now coming together to work on Ellie's proposal. Well done to all the children- they should be very proud of themselves! And a big thank you to Fr Neylon and Mr Hamrock for their time and help. |
